Dr. Katarina Reiterova from the Institute of Parasitology, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Košice visited our Institute. The research visit was under the agreement on scientific cooperation between the Polish and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The purpose of this research visit is a Polish – Slovak joint research project for 2016-2018 titled: Molecular epidemiology of serious parasitoses of human and animals (toxoplasmosis, neosporosis).
Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum are closely related obligate tissue-dwelling Coccidian parasites with worldwide distribution. Both species are important causes of reproductive failure and production losses in farm livestock worldwide. The aim of this study is to monitor the occurrence of N. caninum and T. gondii infection in captive and wildlife animals using immunological and molecular methods.
Professor Bożena Moskwa is the Polish Principle Investigator. The project tasks are realized by Physiopathology Laboratory.
